La Pachamama: The largest 3D-printed sculpture in Latin America

At Medellín 3D, we are proud to present one of our most iconic and ambitious projects: Pachamama , the largest 3D sculpture in Latin America and the third largest in the world. This monumental work not only symbolizes our dedication to large-scale 3D printing , but also the vibrant energy and entrepreneurial spirit of Medellín's youth. It is a clear example of our mission to innovate through art, technology, and creativity on the continent.

Since we began this project in May 2023, the Pachamama of Comuna 13 has been a true odyssey of collaboration and design. Over the course of eight months of intensive work, we went through more than 20 design revisions, uniting a multidisciplinary team of 12 people who worked tirelessly to bring this incredible work, 5 meters tall and weighing almost 540 kg, to life. Quite a technical and artistic challenge!

The printing process began in September 2023, marking the beginning of a journey where our more than 20 3D printers worked tirelessly. We used more than 200 kg of PLA material , a biodegradable bioplastic that highlights our commitment to caring for the environment . We produce between 150 and 200 pieces per week, all strategically designed to ensure the precision and stability of the structure. In total, Pachamama is made up of 1,097 3D printed pieces , carefully assembled with an average of 50 pieces per day.

The post-processing process was equally detailed: for a full month, our team perfected the sculpture to ensure each piece fit together seamlessly. The installation in Medellín's iconic Comuna 13, one of the city's most vibrant and visited neighborhoods, was the culmination of this massive project. With the help of 15 people, the sculpture's seven main pieces were assembled in this significant cultural space.

Today, the Pachamama in Comuna 13 has become an icon of art and technology in Medellín. It attracts visitors not only for its monumental size, but also for what it represents: the union of technological innovation and cultural tradition. Furthermore, it adapts to different times of the year, being decorated for important city events, further strengthening its connection with the community.
